Chevrolet Bel Air met its birth in the 6th generation with an updated body design, a new base, curved glass and new taillights. The interior was also completely redesigned and fully adhered to the new style. Bel Air of that generation was a middle-range model among B-body cars made by GM. There was three twin brothers in the model line - Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne. 1965 Chevrolet Bel Air was available in 3 versions - 4-door sedan, station wagon and 2-door sedan. For 65 model year, the model was updated with brand new front and rear body panels, increasing the overall length of the car to 213 in. Bel Air is a frame body vehicle, so for the 1965, 119 inch frame has got a few updates to increase structural stiffness.
The interior of 1965 Bel Air is pretty neat and nice. There is interesting big circle gauges on the left side of speedometer and in the middle of center console which really draws attention. By today means the interior looks too simple even spartan, with only a few switches and two-spoke steering wheel.
Again with its brothers, Bel Air was available with a large variaty of engines. The simpliest was 230 cubic inch I6 of Turbo-Thrift family, producing just 140 hp, which is really low for a big car. However, it was the most economic option, along with entry-level 283 cu in V8, with the output of 195 HP. For big-block V8 lovers there was at least two options - 327 and 409 cubic inch engines, with latest producing enormous 400-425 HP. Later in 1965 it was changed to 396 cubic inch engine producing 325-340 HP, and hi-powered (220 HP) variation of 283 block became available.
The appearance of the car was typical for mid 60s, featuring four round headlights in front, narrow grille and fashionable sharp-edged front fascia. The rear end has two or three pairs of taillights. What is intersting, sedan version looks much more elegant than coupe, having better proportions. Station wagon modification has enormous luggage space due to usage of extended rear overhang.

I bought a 65 Impala SS hardtop in 1967 when it was two years old. It was Maroon with Black vinyl interior, 283, Powerglide, power steering. Not fast but a nice all around car, put chrome reverse wheels on it with red line tires. I had just gotten out of college and then failed the physical when I got my draft notice so this was my first late model car. Fond memories of it. I really think the 61-68 Impalas were a high water mark for GM stying.
