While the XJ has a relatively narrow window in which to run pipes, and a transfer case to dodge as well, you can run dual exhaust. However, we suggest running the driver's side exhaust circuit under the rear wall of the oil pan and in front of the transmission/bellhousing face, into a Y-pipe joining it with the passenger side circuit. You can also run this Y behind the transfer case (give yourself some room to service the transfer case later) and then into the exit circuit. From there, run rearward to the catalytic converter and then the muffler, following which, you will arc the last section of pipe up over the rear axle and then straight out the back with the tailpipe. 2-1/2" diameter pipe is usually very adequate and will flow as much as you need. 3" is an option.
The IFS is lifted and beefed via a Fabtech 9-inch-lift long-travel coilover suspension system. This kit makes the front suspension sing with 12 inches of travel, which is a 30-percent increase over stock. The kit includes a variety of components, like heat-treated extended-length 4340 front axleshafts; Dirt Logic 4.0 remote-reservoir coilover shocks; and extended-length tubular upper and lower boxed-style control arms. These arms are 1 inch longer than stock, but track width is kept to a minimum with offset steering knuckles. Llado also installed DJ Safety limiting straps. Llado had many of the suspension components powdercoated by Pro Coat in Lake Elsinore to match the body, and he had some items chrome-plated by Metal Masters of Chino. The Fabtech kit also includes oversized tie-rod assemblies and they allow increased wheel travel without bind. Speaking of the steering, Llado installed a Lee Manufacturing hydraulic-assist steering system to help point the 36-inch Mickey Ts.

When searching for any information we could find on this issue, we came across a company that had discovered a fix for the pump rub. The owner of this company, Eric Merchant, developed a fix (including replacement components) for the pump to remedy this very problem and came highly recommended by others who had fallen victim to the problem. Eric informed us that the General Motors transfer cases subject to this problem were models 136, 146, 246, 261, 261HD, 263HD, 263XHD, and 261XHD. He explained that since the pump rides the mainshaft of the transfer case, it has to float in the rear housing. Over time, the five knife-like edges of the stock pump housing rub into the magnesium cover and create leaks.
It is common to see NP203/NP205 "doublers", which is quite literally a NP203 mated to a NP205. More specifically, the process mounts the range box (not the entire transfer case) of a NP203 to the input side of a NP205, using machined adapters to mate the parts securely. This accomplishes many things - first and foremost, it allows for up to a 3.94 to 1 reduction (2.01 for the NP203 x 1.96 for the NP205, often advertised as a nominal 4:1) with low range engaged in both transfer cases, effectively doubling the gear reduction of a standard NP205 transfer case. Furthermore, it eliminates the potentially problematic and less favorable chain drive system of the NP203. Doubling the two cases require only using the NP203's helical geared reduction box, NOT the entire drive system. Doubling the two cases is an affordable technique in order to retain an extremely stout gear train while reaping the benefits of a compound low range setup.
